Remission Ball had a great "get to know you" chat in the Delete Blood Cancer offices of NYC. They're an awesome organization, dedicated to saving lives by finding bone marrow matches for cancer patients.
Delete Blood Cancer is a non-profit organization that registers bone marrow donors to provide patients with second chances at life. Delete Blood cancer celebrates how donors can save lives, dispels myths about the donation process and provide partners with quality donation.
How do I register? All you have to do is swab the inside of your mouth! Click on the link below to receive a free swab kit.
What if I am a match? Delete Blood Cancer will reach out to you for more testing. If you're a match, there are two ways to collect your blood stem cells. Here is stem cell collection information directly from Delete Blood Cancer's website:
Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC) is used 75% of the time. The collection is a non-surgical, outpatient procedure that collects blood stem cells via the bloodstream. It takes about 4-8 hours on 1-2 consecutive days.
Bone Marrow Donation is used in about 25% of cases, generally when the patient is a child. It is a 1-2 hour surgical procedure performed under anesthesia, so no pain is experienced during the donation. Marrow cells are collected from the back of your pelvic bone using a syringe.
Help this organization live up to its name and fulfill its mission to delete blood cancer once and for all.
